Sunrise was one of those straight yellow/orange glow affairs due to the lack of any clouds in the sky this morning, so I turned 180° and photographed this pill box and the glowing sky behind me which looked a lot more interesting. Now, I have photographed this particular Pill Box (just behind the new Graveyard at the rear of Dunmow Church), but I’ve never had a strong enough photograph to publish…is it strong enough today…possibly not…but it’s the best I have 😉 and sometimes, that’s good enough.
I think this may well be a first for me – both sunrise and sunset from the same day.
Great Dunmow’s Doctors Pond this morning was cold and frost – much of the pond was frozen over…to such an extent that the schoolboy with stick couldn’t break the ice…This evening’s sunset was pretty spectacular – and I wasn’t the only person out there photographing it.
I visited the Boat Show at Excel today with work…there’s some money sloshing around that exhibition!
I popped out to catch sunset down the Thames towards Canary Wharf in a 5 image panorama.
Well that was all a disappointment…Snow, Snow, Snow, ran the headlines, weather warnings galore…and we go about a mm of snow – admittedly, there would have been much more if the rain that preceded the snow by about 3 hours had arrived later…then we would probably have had something to talk about!
When I got out of bed an hour before dawn I was somewhat underwhelmed when I looked out the window, still, I got up and went for my normal walk around Dunmow. I could see the cloud moving in and picked up the pace to make sure I reached Doctors Pond bang on sunrise and I was (for once) rewarded with a cracker. Hope you enjoy!
A quick trot into Clavering Church today…I took loads of shots, but really didn’t like any of them, so you get this rather disappointing effort…
It’s Saturday so it’s time for a panorama. Today it is of Doctors Pond in Great Dunmow, Essex at sunset. This is an HDR image made up of 5 HDR images, each made from 5 original images, so 25 images in all (5 per portion). All stitched together in Kolor AutoPano 4.2 and then fiddled with in Lightroom and Photoshop. If you were to print it out at 100% you would need a pretty specialist printer as it would be 68 by 28 inches or 172 x 72 cm. You’d need a pretty large wall to hang it on as well 😉
Who said size doesn’t matter?
A favourite subject on my early morning walk…
The forecast suggested that we might have a rather nice sunset this evening so I packed up my kit and headed over to Thaxted and an area of the edge of the town that has recently been cleared of a lot of hedges opening up the view of the church and windmill…Issues I had
A somewhat abandoned lean to I saw earlier today.
This week’s jaunt was a quick drive down to Canvey Island, just down the coast from Southend, home of Calor Gas and Dr Feelgood…it’s a pretty industrial place…but quite fascinating.
Infamous for a massive flood on the 31st January 1953 that cost the lives of 58 people (including 3 in the Netherlands) and saw the island evacuated when the old sea wall was washed away following a tidal surge.
