flying

I have been trying to get an inflight dragonfly for some time and I finally got one today whilst walking through Rowney Woods. Typically, having failed a number of times previously I managed to get 4 or 5 of them today!

I popped up to the end of the Stansted Airport runway this afternoon to get some shots of the planes flying overhead. As an bit of a bonus I walked across to where there is a steep drop in the land and bumped into a couple of fallow deer – one of them was about 10 yards away…needless to say they took one look at me and legged it in the opposite direction.

This (possibly fledgling) female blackbird appeared in our garden this morning. We didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to her until this afternoon when we realised she was still in residence and was not, apparently, capable of flying any distance. We then noticed that she had a damaged leg and was scraping her beak on the floor. She was eating plenty of slugs and we put out a handful of seed which she gobbled up.

After a call to the RSPCA we went out with a box to capture her…and she flew off, clearly recuperated enough following whatever had happened to her to now leave without difficulty.

A visit the Imperial War Museum at Duxford periodically. It helps that a friend is a Friend of Duxford and gets me in when there is something interesting going on. On Saturday he felt there was a fair chance of Spitfires flying as there was an expedition taking place on the Sunday. We were lucky and 2 Spitfires came out to play – giving us an all too short 2 minute flying exhibition, including a loop the loop.

We ventured outside the county borders today and had a trip to the seaside. We originally intended visiting Southwold, indeed we got to Southwold, drove into the absolutely packed car park and drove straight out again, the place was thronged! So, we pottered down the coast to Aldeburgh. Aldeburgh was also pretty thronged…but not quite so badly as Southwold!

We had some excellent fish and chips followed by a very nice ice cream 😉 Whilst eating the ice cream I took this picture which kind of encapsulates many facets of the British seaside.
