A rather pretty sunset behind Doctors Pond in Great Dunmow that drew me out this evening
Another glorious day meant it was way to hot to venture out until 8.00pm in the evening. With sunset not until 9.20pm that’s not such a problem, the woods were still really dark with the heavy summer canopy blocking out much of the sunlight…so, this is a public footpath we (still) haven’t followed across the field of barley. I haven’t done any HDR for a while – so it was nice to run this shot through Photomatix to create this shot.
I popped over to Walton on the Naze this afternoon to try and photograph the old pill boxes and bunkers that have fallen into the sea following the erosion of the coast. Last time I had a look at these was about a year ago…they’ve really suffered at the hands of the sea since then, although the tide hadn’t gone out far enough for me to photograph the bunkers that still remain. The added bonus was the sunset. More after the break…
Coming home from a Camera Club meeting I had a spare 30 mins around sunset to stop off, so I took the long way home and came back via Debden. I stopped off a the church and walked down to the lake where there was a lonely Swan and (briefly until he saw me) a Grey Heron. This was one of the last shots I took and includes none of the local wildlife but I like it because it reminds me how peaceful it was down there. This really captures the mood perfectly.
I think this may well be a first for me – both sunrise and sunset from the same day.
Great Dunmow’s Doctors Pond this morning was cold and frost – much of the pond was frozen over…to such an extent that the schoolboy with stick couldn’t break the ice…This evening’s sunset was pretty spectacular – and I wasn’t the only person out there photographing it.
I visited the Boat Show at Excel today with work…there’s some money sloshing around that exhibition!
I popped out to catch sunset down the Thames towards Canary Wharf in a 5 image panorama.
Let’s face it, shooting a sunset at Doctors Pond is rather like shooting ducks in a barrel…even with a new manual focus lens I’ve hired which I’m not convinced I’m focusing quite right yet.
It’s Saturday so it’s time for a panorama. Today it is of Doctors Pond in Great Dunmow, Essex at sunset. This is an HDR image made up of 5 HDR images, each made from 5 original images, so 25 images in all (5 per portion). All stitched together in Kolor AutoPano 4.2 and then fiddled with in Lightroom and Photoshop. If you were to print it out at 100% you would need a pretty specialist printer as it would be 68 by 28 inches or 172 x 72 cm. You’d need a pretty large wall to hang it on as well 😉
Who said size doesn’t matter?
So, it’s the start of a new theme today for me to periodically ignore. Out of the hat today was “Signs”…I’m not sure what I was thinking when I chose to select that one as a theme!
Not to worry, to start the new theme off here’s two signs at sunset. I like the clickbait title!
Poor weather is a pain, but with it you will usually get some striking sunsets – this evening was no exception.
