I thought I’d be able to get to this rather lovely wind-pump just outside Lowestoft a good 40 minutes before sunset after working in Great Yarmouth today. As always, the best laid plans meant I turned up just before sunset – this picture was the first I took as I approached the mill.

My one piece of luck was that there was a sunset at all, it having been grey and rainy most of the day…so I was pretty happy…after the break there is a second shot looking away from the sunset which has a completely different feel.

We visited the National Trust’s Wicken Fen this afternoon for a pleasant walk. It was very busy as the weather was quite lovely. Whilst I’ve taken this photograph before, it really is the number one subject at Wicken Fen…the highland cattle were hiding in the long grass and the ponies were miles away…we could just see them in the distance…but the weather was almost perfect, so that was all OK.

Normans Mill is the oldest operational wind powered waterpump in the UK and is loacated on Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire, about an hours drive from where we live in Essex. It’s a National Trust property and it always rather takes my breath away how expensive it is to visit these places!
